NCC Suspends Hike in New Tariff Regime

NCC Suspends Hike in New Tariff Regime

Nigerian Communications Commission – NCC suspends move to force big mobile operators to effect a new tariff regime for data services.
The new tariff regime is suppose to take off on December 1, 2016, but there had been a public outcry against it.

In a statement, signed by Tony Ojobo, NCC director of public affairs said:

Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction.
The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country.
The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria.

More excerpts

“Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016.

The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants. The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB.

In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction.

The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators.

This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse.”

It seems clear to Nigerians that the intervention from TUC, House of Assembly and other concerned bodies effected the change of plan.

Chelsea to Surprise Moses with New Deal Next Season

Chelsea to Surprise Moses with New Deal Next Season

Following the scintillating performance of the Nigerian International and Chelsea star Victor Moses is on the way to strike a mouthwatering deal. The new contract will hold talks in 2017 according to the London Evening Standard.

Stamford Bridge will open talks with the football maestro in the coming days. This is in view to rewarding him for his impressive and magnificent display this season.

Moses is on a four-year deal worth £45,000 a week in 2015 but Chelsea are already willing to negotiate another one with significant pay-rise. This is rarely done in a club like Chelsea.

The Football ace has been one of the success stories in the Premier League this season due to his consistency with the blues at Stamford Bridge.

He has netted three league goals for Chelsea this season and his powerful displays have helped Chelsea to the league standings.

Moses joined Chelsea from Wigan for £9 million in 2012 but was loaned to Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham respectively in the previous three seasons.

However, Coach Antonio Conte has given him a chance to impress since arriving in the summer and is a huge admirer of the skillful star.

It seems obvious that Mourinho is the coach that never utilize the potential of this footballer who has helped Chelsea a great deal this season.

Moses has made 14 appearances this season and has started the past seven League games as a right wing back in the new 3-4-3 formation.

The 25-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday. He was also named man-of-the-match for two consecutive weeks in a row. Wow! what a great player Chelsea now has at their disposal.

Tariff Hike : NCC, Telcos Frustrating Nigerian Subscribers

Tariff Hike : NCC, Telcos Frustrating Nigerian Subscribers

Telecommunications stakeholders are against the recent orders by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to operators to hike data fees from next month, saying, “it’s unacceptable at this point in time.”

In view of the rate increase, operators have begun sending SMS to their subscribers across the country informing them of the policy change.

Some subscribers who spoke to news men threw light on the implications of the tariff increase.  This include hoarding of information, undue oppression and cutting off some subscribers from enjoying data services. It will also affect the growth of the telecommunication industry negatively.

According to Zinox Computers Chairman, Leostan Ekeh, who spoke on phone to newsmen said there are questions to be asked and such need precise answers. “Though I am just hearing it for the first, there must be reasons but certainly not at this time. We need to tread cautiously,”

The rate increment which is largely unknown will take effect from December 1, 2016. This information may be coming as bad news to Nigerian youths who dominate the social media space with mobile phone data plans.

Another stakeholder, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted that the hike was coming on the heels of a swindling economic recession. This has forced the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to initiate a proposal of taxing phone conversations above three minutes. He estimates to rake a N100 billion in a year into the national treasury.

Meanwhile, a telecoms subscriber, hinted that Nigerian youths would be the worst hit. All efforts to get NCC and some service operators to respond proved abortive.

Recall that the NCC had directed mobile operators to initiate a new data tariff regime from December 1, 2016 in what is effectively a price increase.

Consequently, on Monday MTN sent messages to its customers stating that there would be increase in its data tariffs from December 1. The message reads: “Dear customer, please be informed that from December 1, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set.”

Delta Airline – Lunatic Trump Supporter is banned for Life

Delta Air Lines has apologized for failing to eject a Donald Trump supporter from one of its flights after he yelling at other passengers, calling some of the women on the plane “Hillary b – – – – – -s.”

Following the incidence that took place last Tuesday night in a plane, unnamed passenger was on a flight from Atlanta to Allentown, PA. Whose captured video had since gone viral. A video with over 2.2 million views since it was posted on Facebook.

The passenger kept shouting while standing in the aisle, clapping his hands above his head saying; “That’s right, this man knows what’s up,” he said pointing to one passenger. “We got some Hillary b – – – – – s on here?”
“Donald Trump is your president, every God damn one of you,” he says at the end of the 45-second video. “If you don’t like it, too bad.”

At some point passengers on board thought their lives were in danger as the Trump supporter could not be differentiated from lunatics.

Delta Airline CEO

Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a letter sent to Delta employees on Monday said the airline made a mistake by allowing the abusive passenger to remain on the flight.

“This individual displayed behavior that was loud, rude and disrespectful to his fellow customers,” he wrote. “After questioning the customer, our team members made the best decision they could, giving the information they had and allowed him to remain on the flight. However, if our colleagues had witnessed firsthand what was shown in the video, there is no question they would have removed him from the aircraft. He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.”

Bastian also said airlines should admit its mistakes when one is made.
“The heightened tension in our society means that now more than ever we must require civility on our planes and in our facilities,” he said. “We must stay true to Delta’s core values and treat one another with dignity and respect. Also we must remain committed more than ever to the safety of our customers and our crew members. We will not tolerate anything less.”
