Reactions over President Buhari’s order to arrest anyone found with illegal arms

Nigerians all over the globe are frowning at the statement tweeted by President Muhammadu Buhari on arrest after the National Council Meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

Immediately after the meeting the president tweeted; “Yesterday I chaired a National Security Council Meeting. We are stepping up our efforts to tackle the proliferation of small arms and light weapons across the country. The security agencies already have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute anyone found with illegal arms.”

Some Nigerians wondered why on earth Mr. President would  be talking about giving standing orders rather than bringing the Fulani herdsmen responsible for recent killings to book.

Here is the question asked by a follower;

“Why should the security agencies have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute anyone found with illegal arms? Isn’t that supposed to be be part of their jobs already?”

According to a twitter follower who stressed that if the security heads aren’t doing well in securing lives and properties of Nigerians, he should have them fired. Adding that the police that is meant to be in charge of internal security is busy chasing yahoo boys rather than herdsmen.

Another twitter follower said “Yesterday I got arrested for using a big  phone and was locked up and paid N9000 for bail just because I was using a big phone… If it’s not thunder that will fire you and the entire national security council, it’s sango that will kill you people…Rubbish!!!!”

In the same vein another follower concurred by saying “Please let the thunder come and collect my lighting for productive striking.” while another joined in the chorus saying ” …I’ll provide location for the strikes….”

Haha! this followers must be terribly pained as the issue at hand is now personal.

In looking at the issue critically, is the president not supposed to bring the perpetrators to book? What has the man in-charge of national security done to Fulani herdsmen moving around freely with AK47?

PTAD suspends verification exercise for Ex-NITEL/MTEL employees

Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate, PTAD on the 15th of January began the first phase of the verification exercise for former NITEL/MTEL employees under the Defined Benefit Scheme, DBS, nationwide.

The ordeal the ex-NITEL/MTEL workers went through was very pathetic as described by some of the retirees. These men and women, who served the nation with all of their hearts were subjected to a very harsh condition during the verification exercise as they lamented.

Recall that earlier, former workers of Nigerian Telecommunication Limited (NITEL) and Mobile Telecommunication Limited (Mtel) under the umbrella of the Association of Former Telecoms Employees of Nigeria (ATEN) said that its members will not partake in the verification exercise as announced by the Federal Government, Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD). The reason is against the 20 years pension buy out awarded by the liquidation Court in 2014.

According to ATEN, the union was awaiting ECOWAS Court Judgment on the action of Federal Government especially as it concerns PTAD. What then was the Federal Government of Nigeria thinking when a court verdict was not pronounced?

Meanwhile Ecowas court had issued an injunction to the Federal Government on Tuesday restraining PTAD from further engagement in the verification exercise until the verdict is pronounced.

Consequently, the federal government is in suspense as it does not know if the court ruling will be in its favour.

The controversial Charles Oputa popularly known as Charlyboy has come up with another of his tweet.

This time around it concerns tweets by one of Nigeria’s serving Senator Ben Bruce on security issues and the leadership of Nigeria.

While addressing the issue emanated from the herdsmen attack on the people of Benue State, security status of the country and Buhari’s nonchalant attitude on leadership. Some of the excerpts reads; “Nigeria is becoming a lawless country where there is no consequence for bad behaviour!”

“I’m disgusted to find pregnant women with slit stomachs & unborn babies removed. If these herdsmen r allowed to rampage d way they are, then frankly speaking, they are a terrorist organization”

He went on to say “If the security agencies cannot do their job, then they must be fired. ”

“People are being killed. We are becoming a barbaric Nation. The Executive should speak today and explain to Nigerians what is happening in this country.”

“We either face this problem or everybody SHUT UP and RESIGN from public office.”

After reading Ben Bruce’s tweets Charlyboy had this to say;

Fulani herdsmen: Nigeria to open cattle colonies next week

Federal Government says it will start building cattle colonies for fulani herdsmen from next week in states that have indicated interest.

This was made public by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Augu Ogbeh on Friday in Kaduna State.

Ogbeh said the National Economic Council delegated a 10-member committee with the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo including nine governors to be in charge of the cattle colonies in their various states.

Meanwhile open grazing had caused chaos in Benue State where the Fulani herdsmen killed hundreds of people including pregnant women with their unborn babies and the President is nonchalant on the issue.

While addressing newsmen Ogbeh said people are not in support of the idea proposed by the federal government as there are fears that their lands will be assigned to the fulani herdsmen. Ogbeh believes cattle colonies will resolve the issue of open grazing.

According to ogbeh the plan is to provide field where cattle will be fed and monitored in an environment without fight. Though it is reported that Nigeria has about 19.7 million cows and it is important to the country’s GDP.

Hmm! What is the problem with federal government of Nigeria? What is wrong with sambisa forest? Can’t the Federal Government assign sambisa forest to the herdsmen for cattle rearing? It’s obvious there is a foul play by the Nigerian government on this issue.
