Market woman tells Osinbajo “No more order from above”
The Nigeria Vice President Yemi Osinbajo payed a surprise visit to Ikenne Market in Ogun State on his way to Reverend Adebajo’s 75th birthday event yesterday.
Few hours later, the vice president twitted; “Today, I made a surprise stop at Ikenne market, Ogun State after attending Reverend Adebajo’s 75th birthday event. The market is to be reconstructed.” Which means, it’s a clear confirmation, the market will be reconstructed.
It is no longer news in Nigeria where markets are built and reallocated based on “man-know-man”. Instead of reallocating the shops and spaces to the original owners, government officials, the high and mighty use their political influence to reallocate the shops to their family members and themselves. In this scenario the rich gets richer every day as this is the practice in almost all states of the federation.
Interestingly Osinbajo presence was a remarkable one where he was able to interact with the market women one on one. It came as a surprise to so many people who saw the scene when a market woman forced herself through a crowd to express displeasure on how markets are reconstructed and reallocated by government officials with bias.
The old woman unleashed all that bothered her but the one most striking was “Order from above, we don’t want to hear that from this state…” she insisted with all amount of seriousness. After the market has been reconstructed, it should be allocated back to the initial owners.
In reaction to the tweet by the vice president, he however received encomiums from followers such as;
“True leaders must connect to the people and a surprise stop is the best way to do! Lucky Ikenne Market! Congrats “
“How many of our leaders can stand in public like this among the citizen without full armor body guard??”
“This is wonderful gesture. This is what governments should represent Going to the most affected ones Talking to the needs Thanks you talk to them hopefully you put their pains into consideration is another thing.”
Hmm! If only leaders would connect with the less privilege in the society, the world would be perceived to be a better place for everyone.

Gov Emmanuel charges socio-cultural organizations on unity of purpose
Governor Udom Emmanuel has advised Akwa Ibom based socio-cultural organizations to realign political and economic interest across divides to facilitate unity of purpose in the state and the country.
Emmanuel gave the advice during a courtesy visit on him by the Essu Nlap Oro led by its International President, Ulap Joseph Okon, at Government House, Uyo.
The Governor stated that the prevailing adjustments by leading economic and political groups, institutions and associations require the existing and upcoming socio cultural and political assemblages to follow the trend rather than attempting to go the contrary lane, adding that there are ample reasons for interest groups to realign structures in the state and in the country.
He described the Essu Nlap Oro as one of the noticeable groups with unflinching support for the success of the present administration from inception, adding that their visit was a reflection of the willingness to sustain their confidence and trust in the administration of the state.
Emmanuel indicated that the machinery of the state government would continue on the path of transparency and sincerity in the implementation of projects and programmes despite the prevailing economic recession, demanding on the Essu Nlap Oro and other socio-cultural organizations to maintain the needed peace in the state for enhanced development.
The State Chief Executive Officer remarked that his administration has not relented in efforts to see the realization of the deep seaport project to serve as another avenue of employing teeming youths constituting a large segment of members in the socio-cultural organizations, announcing that an appropriate formula was still being considered for the allocation of contracts through the inter ministerial direct labour arrangement.
He maintained that the state government considers the Essu Nlap Oro as strong partners in the unity project of the state through the implementation of projects evenly in the state, assuring that the present heavy rainfall has delayed the construction of roads and drainages slated to commence in parts of Oro nation while mentioning that several investors are willing to partner in the construction of the Ibaka deep seaport and associated industrial city to accommodate an international market, truck parks, guest houses to boost economic living of the people.
In his address, Ulap Okon who was also accompanied by the former Minister for Lands and Housing, Dr Akon Eyakenyi and the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Orman Esin, said the visit was to bear witness to the enduring strength of brotherhood and the affirmation of democratic promises made by the state government to the people of the state.
He noted that the group was proud to identify with Governor Emmanuel for establishing a reputation for quality leadership, altruistic service and political orientation, describing the Emmanuel administration as being accountable, responsive and responsible to the yearning of the people of the state.
The group’s President appreciated the state government for the dualization and realignment of the Uyo – Okopedi – Oron road, the ongoing construction of roads in Mbo Local Government Area, while also soliciting for the construction of the about 13 kilometer road traversing Oro nation from Urue Ita to Eyo Abasi.
He pledged the readiness of the Essu Nlap Oro to contribute their quota to the leadership of the state in line with modernity and developmental politics through effective mobilization, stressing that the group was committed to reversing “the vista of politics in Oro nation by sensitizing the people to assert themselves and develop the will of resisting bad leadership”.
Obaseki advises Nigerians clamoring for disintegration to stop
Governor Obaseki says those clamoring for disintegration of Nigeria should stop and preach”peace and unity“.
Obaseki made the call at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Nigeria Army 4th Brigade Garrison Ikpoba Hill, Benin City during their 2017 harvest.

The governor called on the church to pray for Nigeria’s continued unity as it pays to stay as a united country. Gov. Obaseki explained that he decided to worship with the church because its premises housed equipment of contractors handling the ongoing rehabilitation of Lucky Way road.
He said his administration will redefine political office as service to the electorate and that residents of the area most of whom served in the military deserve better infrastructure.
In his address the officiating priest Rev. Fr. Major Richard Bwami commended Gov. Obaseki for turning attention to the deplorable road and described him as “action governor“.
Gov. Obaseki later volunteered to join the harvest committee of the church with an assurance to assist in raising money for the construction of their building project.

Floyd Mayweather is out with another showoff of ‘bling bling’ jewelries as the clock ticks in a showdown encounter coming up on August 26 in Las Vegas against MMA icon Conor McGregor.
This fight was confirmed to CNN World Sport by Mayweather’s Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe.
It is a surprise to so many as Floyd Mayweather comes out of retirement to box Conor McGregor.
Meanwhile speculation making rounds is that Floyd Mayweather is out to fight because of the huge amount of money attached.
Not sooner than later Mayweather took to Instagram to showoff his ‘bling bling’ Jewelries worth thousands of dollar driving in his limousine car.
Some of his fans who got irritated could not hide their displeasure over the showoff but rain abuses on him. Another who believes in helping the needy simply asked him to “… FEED AFRICA. OR BUILD A SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS WITH THAT.”
See other comments below; “marylicious8705 Ok so let me get this straight. You say “no matter rich or poor”..what poor person gonna floss their poor lifestyle??? Do you want them to show you their EBT card or what?? Im confused..I think since you are so loaded your challenge should focus on helping those in need (which I’m sure you do elsewhere) but let’s glorify trying to help others and not show off material things because that doesnt help anyone. I am a Social Worker & it breaks my heart seeing so many children and families in need. So thats why Im so passionate about helping others. If I had your bank account no one in this world would ne hungry OR homeless ! “

concession to anybody or group farming in Okomu National Park.

He said it still had some animal species not found in other similar parks in the south-western region.
His statement reads; “Your excellency since establishment, the park has enjoyed relative peace and remarkable success in the area of park protection, research and more importantly establish good relationship with the host community. Today the park is the only area in the south-western Nigeria where animal species such as white-throated monkey, chimpanzee, forest elephant, forest buffalo … can be seen”.
He however said the park which covers an area of 202 km² has been under threat and encroachment as about three compartments have been taken over by cocoa farmers.
He added “Despite these effort the park is still undergoing some challenges such as the encroachment and the trespass on the park areas especially in the southern extension of the park by the community living around the park.
Similarly three compartments of the park have also been invaded by migrant cocoa farmers”.
In response Governor Obaseki thanked them for their effort to preserve the park and the environment. He acknowledge that their vision matches-up with his administration’s effort to preserve the environment and listed steps already taken by his government in that regard.

Governor Obaseki has ordered contractors working on Lucky Way to resubmit the road design so as to create plans to take care of challenges of flooding in the area.
The governor spoke after inspecting the road which is currently under construction. He said the idea is to review the engineering drawing to make sure that notable flash points on the road are dealt with.

Quite a bit has been achieved but I have instructed that the designs for the project be submitted to my office again for review based on what I’ve seen to ensure my concerns are taken into account in the design. You could see the patch, that area, it was quite flooded.
I want to make sure the design this time around take full cognizance of the potential danger of flooding in that area.
… we build this road once and for all,
we don’t have to come back…”

Edo State Governement collaborates with FFWPU to protect family education
The Edo State Government has expressed interest in collaborating with NGO “Family Federation for World Peace and Unification Nigeria FFWPU” to protect family education.
The State Governor Obaseki revealed this on Thursday while receiving the NGO in government house on a courtesy visit. The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff Taiwo Akerele noted the importance of family as a unit in character molding cannot be over emphasized. He noted that whatever the school is teaching cannot have any impact in shaping the character of children if the family does not have an input.
His statement reads; “if a young boy is not well trained at home, it means that he’s not able to make contribution, positive contribution to the development of the society in future. So we must hold the family very strongly, the family as a unit in character molding, Whatever the schools are teaching the students, the family still have a role to play and government cannot divulge itself from this whole process”.
He added that the government will play a part in adjusting the school curriculum to assign roles to the families officially.
Akerele also revealed that the Governor has constituted committee to be inaugurated next week comprising of library scientist to reinstate an effective library system in the State. The national president of FFWPU Rev. George Ogurie said the FFWPU which will soon be launched in the state is devoted to world peace and unity.
Ogurie’s statement reads; “Character education is something we should not neglect among our young people. Yes, we are spending a lot of resources building schools, sending our children to schools and we are teaching formal education, providing education in the area of science and technology … All these things are to provide the young people with skills to function in life and to have a profession. Actually more importantly is the character of those young people”.
He revealed that the programme will be launching in Edo State and called on the state government to partner with them.
