FIFA releases procedure for the World Cup final draw

FIFA releases procedure for the World Cup final draw

As the football fiesta draws closer, FIFA yesterday publish on its website a detailed procedure on how the long anticipated final draw will take.

According to the publication, the October 2017 edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking has been used to allocate all qualified teams to the four pots in descending order, with the best seven teams along with hosts Russia in pot 1.

The draw sequence will start with pot 1 and end with pot 4. Each pot will be completely emptied before moving on to the next. As per the standard procedure, a ball from a team pot will be drawn, followed by a ball from one of the group pots, thus determining the position in which the respective team will play.

Further considerations

In pot 1, Russia will have a red ball and will be pre-assigned the position of A1 as host.

The remaining seven teams in pot 1 will automatically be drawn into position 1 of each group (B to H), whereas teams in pots 2, 3 and 4 will be drawn into positions randomly in their groups.

FIFA’s general principle is to ensure that no group has more than one team from the same qualification zone drawn into it. This is applicable to all zones except Europe, which is represented by 14 teams. Each group must have at least one but no more than two European teams drawn into it. As such, six out of the eight groups will feature two European teams.

The distribution of the teams into the groups according to the geographic separation principle will be monitored by a system designed to take all parameters into account, which means that groups may be skipped. For example, Peru, Colombia and Uruguay, which are in pot 2, will not be drawn into the same group with Brazil or Argentina, which are in pot one. The same principle will apply to the teams from the other confederations with the exception of UEFA.

The FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 final draw is scheduled for December 1, 2017.

Tyson Fury furious over David Price comments on social media

Recently stories have been making rounds on social media concerning the return of Tyson Fury but before his comeback to the big stage he would have to get clearance from the World Boxing Federation WBF.

Though lately he has been having some interesting contenders and the one presently hitting the air waves is no other than David Price his old rival.

According to Wikipedia, David Price (born 6 July 1983) is a British professional boxer. He held the British, English, and Commonwealth heavyweight titles between 2012 and 2013, and was one of the division’s top-rated prospects in the early 2010. As an amateur he won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and three ABA titles; all in the super-heavyweight division.

On Thursday November 16. 2017 David posting and bursting on Twitter that he is the only English man who has beaten Tyson Fury. See his post;

“Tyson I’m the last (and only) Englishman to beat you! I know deep down you still want revenge. Now if you don’t mind I’m fitting an en suite.”

In response, Tyson asked “Who would still like to see me vs my oldest rival @DavidPrice_1 the Big stiff plumber.” Hmm! Tyson describes David as “the Big stiff plumber.” Is he really a big stiff plumber?

Even at a point Tyson Fury became furious after a thought of David’s comment. Read his response;

“Yes big pricy u were my only real loss in my career Amateur or professional.”

Tyson Fury added “Would love to put it right if I could, Like I said I’m the past they will need 10 plumbers to fix u when I’m done with u.” It’s sounds quite easy. Right?

David Price had to talk back. Here is what he said; “let’s do it. ‘Easy’ one back for you. Massive opportunity for me and anything could happen”

PMB congratulates Nigeria for defeating Argentina in a friendly match

PMB congratulates Nigeria for defeating Argentina in a friendly match

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari last night poured his heart out to congratulate the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their victory over Argentina.

He made this public on his twitter handle saying “Congratulation to our soaring Super Eagles, and to all Nigerians, on tonight’s victory against Argentina.”

Funny enough out of the president’s busy schedule he made out time to watch the international friendlies which could be a display of patriotism. It was a match many believed would have been a smooth sail for Argentina over the Super Eagles who are placed 41 in FIFA ranking.

Banega scored Argentina’s first goal due to a costly error from Akpeyi whose services would no longer be required in Russia 2018 as Gernot Rohr has a better replacement called Tyrone. At the 36th minute Sergio Aguero scored his 36th international goal to move clear in third place on Argentina’s all-time scoring.

Meanwhile, the star player of the moment Alex Iwobi scored twice as Nigeria fought back from 2-0 down against Argentina who had Lionel Messi missing in the squad. But Super Eagles leaving no stone unturned put up a scintillating performance to secure a stunning 4-2 friendly victory in Krasnodar, Russia.

Lots of critics said Messi or no Messi, Nigeria would have given Argentina a real show down. Another went on to say Lionel Messi faked an injury so as to exempt himself from Argentina squad when he heard Alex Iwobi would be present.  Hahaha! Could this be true?  It’s very difficult to say as there is no clear evidence on this statement.

However, this is Nigeria’s second win against Argentina and the second in which they’ve scored four times. Other countries with big names in soccer should henceforth expect the unexpected as soccer is no longer mathematics.

Patrice Evra red carded for karate kick on a fan before Marseille match

Patrice Evra red carded for karate kick on a fan before Marseille match

Marseille defender Patrice Evra was red-carded on Thursday for a karate kick on a fan in UEFA Europa League.

According to newsmen, before the kick-off time between his club, Marseille and Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League encounter, the 36-year old Portuguese was apparently insulted from the sideline by a fan What was said to him is yet to be known.

During the heating moment with group of fans at the sideline Evra could not hold his cool by aiming a head-high left-foot on a fan which came as a shock to so many fans around world. Hmm! This footballer must have undergone training on Karate popularly known as Kung-Fu.

Former France boss Raymond Domenech described Evra’s action as a “suicide” on L’Equipe TV.

In an interview session with Marseille’s coach Rudi Garcia after the French club lost 1-0 to Vitoria Guimaraes, these were his comments;

“Pat has experience, and he must not react, it’s obvious,”

“Patrice is a more than just an experienced player. You can’t respond to insults as bad as they are and as incredible as they might be because they come from one of our supporters.”

“He must learn to keep his cool.”

This is coming rather too late as the damage is already done. It’s really embarrassing where a player of this pedigree would condescend so low to display this kind of act. Nobody knows what action FIFA would take on this issue. Maybe this would be an eye opener to so many footballers out there.

Aaron Gordon in fiasco over a twitter account owner with same name

Aaron Gordon, american professional basketball player for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association (NBA) recently attacked a journalist on twitter, Aaron W. Gordon who writes about anything for bearing the same name.

Interestingly there is a clear difference in both names. The NBA star has his initial as A. while the journalist has his initial as W.

This sound ridiculous! right? Why on earth will anyone force someone to change a name because he bears same name?

Following the conversation on twitter, see a tweet from Aaron W. Gordon and it reads;

“There is a basketball player with the same name as me. This person is upset with me because of it.”  He is referring to no other person than Aaron A. Gordon.

Some twitter followers of Gordon, the basketball player are insisting that the journalist change his twitter account name. Here is what one of the follower said;

“He has earned the right, however in order to become a legitimate twitter account you need to create your own personality, not simply but others”

In reaction the journalist said;

“I created this account when the basketball player was 15 years old. I was born six years before the basketball player. Are you saying I haven’t earned the right to exist because someone came along after me with the same name?”

Hmm! this sounds worrisome. In a world we live in, people force people
to change their names because they bear the same. What a crazy world!

Rafael Nadal Moves up to Number 1 on ATP rankings coming out soon

Rafael Nadal Moves up to Number 1 on ATP rankings coming out soon

Rafael Nadal is already celebrated before the release of the ATP rankings coming out on August 21, 2017.

This comes as a result of Roger Federer’s absence from Western & Southern Open. The 19-time champion withdrew Monday from the Western & Southern Open due to back injury. It remains on record, he has won the Masters series tournament seven times.

The Swiss star, ranked No. 3, is sidelined along with No. 1 Andy Murray, No. 4 Stan Wawrinka, No. 5 Novak Djokovic and No. 6 Marin Cilic, the defending champion. Only No. 2 Rafael Nadal, the top-seeded player, remains in the draw.

Fans of Nadal are already rejoicing posting goodwill messages on Instagram.
The question is, will he remain on top for long, should he become number 1? I doubt!

Tournament officials tweeted that 21st-ranked Gael Monfils also is out because of an undisclosed illness. All the missing players except Cilic are 30 or older.

In reaction, Nadal said “It’s just coincidence,”. “We’re not 20 years old any more. We’re not playing all the weeks. It’s part of our sport. I’ve been in their position lots of times. I’ve missed more events than the other players. It’s part of the game. I wish them all a speedy recovery. We need them in the game. I hope they get back soon.”

Consequently, Federer’s withdrawal means Nadal will return to No. 1 when new ATP rankings are released this month.
