FRSC denies mandating its personnel to carry guns.
FRSC, The Federal Road Safety Commission urges the public to ignore reports going round that the corp has started distributing and mandating its personnel to bear firearms.
Head, Media Relations and Strategy FRSC Bisi Kazeem while briefing newsmen says the rumour was being circulated by mischievous element seeking to provoke disorder in the society. Adding that there was no immediate plans to implement the law that permits it officials to carry fire arms.
He also said it was unfortunate that people circulated the picture that depicted some road safety officials being drilled by the Nigerian Army on how to handle firearms. Though noted that the picture are dug out of training that took place years ago.
Kazeem pointed out that the Corp had being going through such training on regular intervals since 1992 during the administration of former president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
The spokes person said an amendment to the FRSC Act in 2007 granted road traffic managers the power to bear arms like the police and other security agencies. And finally stated that the previous corp Marshall did not prioritize its implementation.
